There’s no such thing as a Gruffalo

There’s no such thing as a Gruffalo

Have you heard of the Gruffalo? It’s story that is very popular over here at the moment. It’s about a small mouse walking through the forest. On his way the mouse encounters several dangerous animals (a fox, an owl, and a snake). Each of these animals, intends on eating the mouse, invites him back to their home for a meal. The cunning mouse declines each offer. To scare them off to protect himself he tells each animal that he has plans to dine with his friend, a gruffalo, whose favourite food happens to be the relevant animal, and describes the features of the gruffalo’s monstrous anatomy. Frightened that the gruffalo might eat it, each animal flees. Knowing the gruffalo to be fictional, the mouse gloats thus:
Silly old fox/owl/snake, doesn’t he know?
there’s no such thing as a gruffalo!

After being quit of the last animal, the mouse is shocked to encounter a real gruffalo – with all the frightening features the mouse thought that he was inventing. The gruffalo threatens to eat the mouse, but again the mouse is cunning: he tells the gruffalo that he, the mouse, is the scariest animal in the forest. Laughing, the gruffalo agrees to follow the mouse as he demonstrates how feared he is. The two walk through the forest, encountering in turn the animals that had earlier menaced the mouse. Each is terrified by the sight of the pair and runs off – and each time the gruffalo becomes more impressed with the mouse’s apparent toughness. Exploiting this, the mouse threatens to eat the gruffalo, which flees.

This is the Gruffalo story book

The real-life Gruffalo!

Well I was very lucky on the weekend, the Gruffalo was visiting Selfridges. So mummy and I caught a big red bus into Oxford Street and met him on level 4 in the Toy shop. I was very brave and had a photo with him. He tried to give me a big or (or eat me, I am not quite sure) but my quick reflexes went into action and I grabbed his sharp teeth and pushed him away. There were lots of little kids there to visit him and most of them were quite scared of him. I think my leopard print jacket may have confused him so I know he wouldn’t eat me. It was a strategic move from mummy.

On Sunday we caught the tube into Covent Garden and had brunch with Rae, Craig and Uncle JD. Craig loves Christmas and he bought me a nice little Christmas outfit. It was very cute and I modelled it for everyone at brekky. Rae was lovely she wanted to smother me in kisses and cuddles. I wasn’t too sure of her pram driving skills but I loved her cuddles. After brunch we checked out the sights of Covent Garden, mummy wanted to take me to feed the Reindeers but then we found out they were only there on Saturdays, so that will have to be left for another day’s adventures. We did encounter a giant grass Reindeer, a big Christmas tree and a strange scary looking man. There are lots of buskers in Covent Garden, some are funny, some are creative but most of them are a little freaky. There was one particular man who was dressed up like some kind of ancient beast of a man. I didn’t really like him but I think Craig took a liking to him.

Craigy!

After the buskers we were going to walk to Hamley’s Toy store, the biggest and best toy store in London but mummy forgot that she need to get her pork roast out of the oven. How times flies when your having fun! So we stopped by Hummingbird bakery for some cupcakes and walked down Regent street to get to Piccadilly Circus. Whilst we were walking down Regent street I learnt how to play peek-a-boo with the footmuff in my pram. I lift it up high over my head so you can’t see me and then I pull it down really quick and mummy says ‘Peek-a-Boo!’ It’s lots of fun! It was my first time in Piccadilly circus so of course we had to stop for the photo op. JD came home with us, for the yummy roast and to watch the Liverpool game.

The big Christmas tree, so big we couldn't fit it in the camera

I missed out on trying any of the roast but I did stay up to watch Liverpool beat Chelsea!! Woohoo! Mummy told me how delicious her 6 hour Pork roast turned out and how daddy was impressed with the crackling.

I really like going in to central London. It’s really beautiful this time of year when everything is lit up for Christmas. All the main streets like Oxford, Regent etc are all decorating using so many tiny fairy lights. It looks amazing! Mummy couldn’t resist taking a few photos.

We had a skype session with Omi this week and she mentioned that some of the Christmas shopping links were not working. Mummy has updated them and on a another good note a lot of the websites are having sales at the moment. Mummy has re-posted the links below.
